What is a Connecting Group?

A Connecting Group is comprised of people who form the basic unit of Christian covenant community within the larger Calvary Church body. Its purpose is to make disciples and advance the Kingdom of God by:

• Sharing life in Christ through prayer, worship and study
• Caring for and ministering to one another
• Reaching out to a needy world
• Developing leaders and groups

Belonging in a community where the grace of God frees us to live honest, loving and fearless lives. Where questions, doubts and concerns can openly be acknowledged as part of our journey towards God.

Becoming in a community where the grace of God compels and empowers us to pursue change and growth in the character of Jesus. A community committed to creating an environment that challenges and encourages one another to grow in the character of Christ, the best possible life!

Being a blessing in a community where the grace of God invites and equips us to join with Him and others in doing His wonderful works, bringing purpose to our lives in all that we do. Where we gracefully influence others to seek Jesus, attracting them by our living example individually, as well as, in community, and caring for the body, mind, and spiritual need of others — especially those the world overlooks.

The journey into community begins with hanging out, having fun, and doing life together, but that's just the beginning. A deeper community life experience awaits those who commit to pursuing it together. We acknowledge that this kind of community and personal life is not the norm and is only possible through our consistent dependence on God. Join us on the road to discover new life as we individually and collectively put our confidence in Jesus. If you do, you'll experience the ride of your life!

Connecting Groups are the entry point into group life. The messages on Sunday provide the initial connection as well as the catalyst for these groups to take what they've heard Sunday deeper into their lives with a small group of friends by using the "Going Deeper" message tool. The commitment is short-term and follows the duration of the sermon series. Connecting Groups meet at a variety of times and become available through Group Links that occur at the beginning of each message series.

Small Groups form organically and with a longer term commitment in mind. They may result from a Connecting Group or Journey Group that decides to commit to a longer experience or a group that just starts with that desire because of an affinity that exists. These groups choose to make a mutual commitment to grow in their relationship with Jesus and each other based upon open dialog and growing levels of trust. They jointly make decisions about curriculum, support, and what group life will look like based upon the vision of Calvary to be a place where people can belong, become like Jesus and be a blessing to others.
