SHAWN WINTERSSenior Pastor

Shawn’s committed to serving God by leading well, listening well, and preaching relevant, Biblical messages. He wants Calvary Church to be a place that makes disciples who make disciples for Jesus Christ. Shawn and his wife Becky have been married since 1992 and have four children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with Becky and the kids, running, coaching and taking loooong family road trips (Where the kids are trapped and have to talk!). If his beloved Kansas Jayhawks are playing basketball, he’ll cheer them to victory. He’s a graduate of Biola University, Bethel Theological Seminary, and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

KEN GEISExecutive Pastor

Ken empowers staff to use their passions in serving the church, and live out God’s love. He and Lisa have been married since 1981, and have two grown daughters, and a son-in-law. Ken enjoys traveling the world, running (the longer the run, the better) and smoking. Smoking meat, that is. The unflappable Ken lets nothing faze him, not even running in Grandma’s Marathon, which he has done numerous times. He holds degrees from Bethel University, Bethel Theological Seminary, and Hartford Seminary, but only the Oklahoma Sooners hold a place in his heart.

MARCELLA RAINEExecutive Director of Finance & Support Ministries

Money is talked about a lot in the Bible, and we’re given great instruction on how to handle it in God-honoring ways. Marcella is humbled to be entrusted with the gifts from the congregation, and is diligent about keeping people informed on how the funds are used. She’s a Calvary Church Rock Star, having been on staff since the merge with Christ Community Church. Marcella has four adult children—two by birth, and two by marriage—and seven grandchildren who give her an enormous amount of joy. When she’s not at work (which is rare), she enjoys reading and crafting. She’s our resident California girl, and earned her B.A. in Accounting at San Diego State University.

MARK AARDAHLJr. High Student Ministry Director

Mark loves getting junior high students pumped about their faith, and creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere for kids at Calvary. He and his beautiful bride, Samantha, have two children, a dog, and four chickens. He enjoys camping, riding his Victory motorcycle, singing, and playing guitar. And he competes in Spike Ball tournaments, which is apparently “a thing.” If he’s not hanging out with his family, he’s probably at Mickie D’s downing a Big Mac (aka: the Absolute Greatest Sandwich on Planet Earth). He liked the University of Northwestern, St. Paul (B.A. in Youth Ministry) so much, he’s going back for his M.A. in Theological Studies.

TUCKER ANDERSONDiscipleship Pastor

Tucker’s desire is to provide each person at Calvary the tools and resources to be disciples of Jesus. Tucker and Alia were married in 2013, and welcomed baby Myra in May 2016. Before the baby, they had all sorts of interesting hobbies, such as tandem biking/kayaking, water skiing, snow skiing, and leisurely drinking nice dark roast coffee at Starbucks. He’s a graduate of Bethel University (and spent a year at Jerusalem University College) and Bethel Seminary, where he learned to impress his friends and co-workers by reading Greek.

CHRISTY BECHERChildren’s Ministry Director

Christy loves walking alongside Calvary kids and their families and watching as they grow in their faith. Her ultimate goal is for kids to become devoted followers of Jesus. Christy and her husband Cory have four children, and she has called Calvary home since second grade. After graduating from University of Northwestern, St. Paul with a B.A. in Elementary Education, Christy taught elementary school for five years before joining the Calvary staff in Children’s Ministry. Her current claim to fame is falling off her high heels when giving announcements in a service. Christy loves getting lost in a good book, watching her kids play sports, and dreams of traveling the world. Someday.

CHERYL BRUNKOWCommunications Director

Cheryl firmly believes communications in the church should achieve the same level of excellence that is applied to business, to reflect well on our “CEO.” Graphics and words are powerful tools that enhance the worship experience. Cheryl and Rich have three young adult sons, one daughter-in-law, and one precious baby granddaughter. She has held a variety of writing, graphic design, and marketing jobs, most recently at Bethel University (her alma mater)—and has been overheard gushing, “I LOVE that font!!!” Also a foodie, Cheryl writes a blog to share her passion for cooking and entertaining with others. Oh, and she makes a mean chocolate chip cookie.

ANNA MARIE CAREYContemporary Worship Director—Roseville Campus

Anna is a storyteller, learner and dreamer who loves creating musical soundscapes that narrate stories of hope. She wants worship to integrate into everything we do, and not simply be a Saturday night/Sunday morning activity. Anna loves cinema, red lipstick, chai lattes, and the year 1968. (Although a child of the 90’s, she’s actually convinced she was born in the 60’s…) Her mother is a university president, and she inherited her love of film from her video/audio producer dad. Now and then she gets to sing and play with brother Brett, also a worship leader. She graduated from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul with a degree in Electronic Media Communication (Film Production).

HANK DONATOContemporary Worship Director—White Bear Campus

Hank is drawn to the community experience created through music making—and especially enjoys the harmony of a worship team. He recently earned his B.A. in Marketing at Bethel University, so of course, he’s earning a living as a musician! Fiancé Liz and Hank curate the digital magazine breadwinner.online that highlights local writers and artists, but they also enjoy collaborating on their October wedding plans. When not leading worship at White Bear Campus, Hank takes a break from music with…more music. He moonlights as half of the hip-hop duo, John Chuck & The Class. Go ahead, Google them.

VONN DORNBUSHImpact Ministry Pastor

Vonn has a big heart for the world, and constantly challenges people of all ages at Calvary to put their faith into action through outreach and service. His heart for missions has taken him (with teams from Calvary) to Haiti, Ukraine, Jamaica and Ethiopia. He and his wife Martha have four adult children, and are SUPER excited to have a granddaughter, baby Esther. On staff at Calvary since 1993, he brings a variety of skills to the table including teaching, and directing plays and musicals. Vonn loves working outdoors to maintain his six ponds, apple orchard, and multiple gardens. He’s earned degrees from the University of Minnesota, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Temple Baptist Seminary, and Hamline University.

MIKE GRAHAMWhite Bear Campus Pastor

Mike’s a self-proclaimed ministry nerd, and loves all aspects of pastoral ministry. With 25 years of pastoring under his belt, he’s found building relationships is key to seeing Jesus transform lives. Mike has earned degrees from the U of M (B.S.), Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and is currently completing his D.Min. at Bethel Seminary. New to Calvary, Mike is excited to be a part of this community, and with his secret weapon of WOO, he will win others over in no time! He and his wife Lisa are parents to son Travis and dogs Moose and Charlie. And as long as everyone understands where they fit in the pack (hint: the dogs are alpha, the humans are not), everyone gets along famously.

TAMMIE JUNKANSTraditional Worship Pastor

Tammie is passionate about worship, hoping it brings people to God in ways that are life-changing. She also hopes that musicians and artists will find community at Calvary. Tammie and her husband Dean have two adult children, and a son-in-law. When not rifling through piles of sheet music, Tammie enjoys reading, shopping, traveling, singing in Two Rivers Chorale, and getting together with friends and family. A Calvary attender since 2000, she was excited to join staff in 2007. (We think she’s practically perfect in every way, just like her idol Mary Poppins.)

Prior to working at Calvary, Tammie taught K-12 music, and is currently an adjunct at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul. She holds degrees from Bethel University and University of St. Thomas.

MARK LENZVolunteer Development & Community Life Director

Mark loves creating effective systems, strategies, and structures so that ministry both honors God and inspires people. He’s also passionate about developing leaders and helping volunteers use their gifts in service. Mark and Carolyn and have three grown children, and he enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding, and dominating his Fantasy Football league. The kids will happily spend time with Mom and Dad, as long as Dad’s paying. As a ministry veteran, Mark has had ample opportunities to use his degrees in Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry, and his M.A. in Organizational Leadership.

STAN McFALLSenior Adults Pastor

Stan is another passionate pastor on staff at Calvary, and we are so happy to have him on the team! He originally helped out in an interim role, but we just couldn’t let him go. A short visit with Stan will reveal some of his many mysteries—he’s been a pastor for 26 years, served on the mission field for nine, is currently a corporate chaplain, and speaks French (un peu). But the biggest surprise about Stan is how entertaining he is—literally—as an illusionist! Stan and his wife Jan (yes, they rhyme…) live in Columbia Heights and have three kids, two daughters-in-law, and five grandkids that he will happily show you pictures of anytime. Stan has earned a B.A. from Samford University, an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a D.Min. from Bethel Seminary, and an MPNA from Metropolitan State University. Whew!

SAM TOWNSENDSr. High Ministry Pastor

Sam is a graduate of Minnesota State Community & Technical College (A.A), University of Northwestern—St. Paul (B.S.), and Bethel Theological Seminary (M.Div.). His years of experience as a camp counselor, and programming and curriculum writer for YouthWorks make him the perfect fit for our Youth Pastor role. Sam lives 1.1 miles from Calvary’s Roseville campus and 1.5 miles from the Minnesota State Fair Grounds, where each year he sells the world’s best foot-long hotdogs for the family business—started by his grandfather in the 1940’s. Sam enjoys the occasional bike ride, the frequent cheesy pun, and the company of good people. He is thrilled to be part of the pastoral team at Calvary Church and serving some truly incredible teenagers.

BEN TYVOLLCare Pastor

Ben feels that effective care ministry will mirror how Jesus cared for people—by inviting people into safe and loving relationships, and encouraging them to embrace their new God-given identity. Ben and his wife Kaaren (not a typo!) have five busy kids who give them both great joy and present challenges. He loves to be outdoors, play/watch/coach sports (anything that involves a ball), listen to and play music, and hang out with his family and friends. As a graduate of both UW-Stout and Bethel Seminary, he’s torn in his NFL allegiance, but has decided to raise a brood of Packer fans. We forgive him.

ELDER BOARD

Calvary Church is led by the Elder Board, which currently has nine members—a Church Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Senior Pastor, and five additional elders. These elected members are leaders of the church in life, thought, and ministry who use 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 as a model for conduct in their lives.
